At Kallista Primary School, we understand the importance of a strong Literacy curriculum, enabling all students to develop their skills to the best of their abilities. We aim to create not just conventionally great writers, readers, speakers, listeners and thinkers; but passionate, courageous and curious writers, readers, speakers, listeners and thinkers.
Across the school, as students make the transition from ‘learning to read’ to ‘reading to learn’, literacy is integrated into all our programs, giving students the opportunity to engage with the entire school curriculum, including critical and creative thinking, social sciences, STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) and the arts.
At Kallista PS, we strongly value the importance of our daily literacy session, where students are engaged in “Reader’s Workshops” and “Writer’s Workshops”. Through these they learn to read, write and think critically with a passionate, inquisitive nature; guided and inspired by world-renowned reading and writing programs, passionate teachers, the student’s own interests and a wide range of texts and media texts.
