At Kallista Primary School, Creativity is one of our school values and we are constantly looking for creative educational opportunities for students. We highly value our Music and Performing Arts programs as part of this creative development.
Our weekly music lessons for classes Prep to Year 6 aim to develop:
- confidence to be creative, innovative, thoughtful, skilful and informed musicians
- skills to listen, improvise, compose, interpret, perform, and respond with intent and purpose
- aesthetic knowledge and respect for music and music practices across global communities, cultures and musical traditions
- understanding of music as an aural art form, its relationship with other arts forms and contributions to cultures and societies
In addition to our weekly music lessons, students at Kallista have the option to participate in specialised instrumental lessons, provided by our team of six talented instrumental teachers. All instruments are available to be covered and currently, over 70 students at our school enjoy their weekly instrumental lesson.
Special year level programs such as recorder for Year 4 students and marimba and Japanese drums for our Year 5 and 6 students, are also offered.
At KPS we run a biennial whole school production (even years), including acting, singing and dancing, which is always a wonderful opportunity for all the students to be involved in.
We are also excited to be part of a wonderful musical performance through the Dandenong Ranges Music Council next year. More info coming!
There are many and varied, rich opportunities for children to be immersed in Music and the Performing Arts at Kallista Primary School!
